Glottenbal Productions has been founded as a not-for-profit organisation by Lisa Blair, Associate Director of the smash hit One Man Two Guvnors with the National Theatre, and two emerging independent producers, Chris Foxon and Luke Holbrook, with the aim of producing the best new work and reviving neglected classics that say something about the contemporary world and engage those in need. For our first production we will be producing the English premiere of Stewart Conn’s play I Didn’t Always Live Here at the multi-award-winning Finborough Theatre in London from 26 March – 20 April 2013, marking the first performance in forty years of this exceptional play from one of the UK’s greatest living writers and launching Glottenbal Productions as a new theatre company. The play is a moving and ambitious depiction of two elderly Glaswegian ladies, who are now largely trapped in their decaying flats and cut off from their family and friends but whose inspiring and courageous lives are revealed by dramatic flashbacks and lyrical reminiscences, calling upon a rich supporting cast of characters. At times reflective, looking back on past loves and old traumas, at times vehement in its insights into contemporary life, I Didn’t Always Live Here is a study of the human spirit’s capacity to cope with social exclusion and financial hardship; its revival could not be timelier.
