I have been invited to participate in "Expressions of movement" exhibition, in The Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire. It represents a huge opportunity for me to show a big piece to a large number of people. Also it will create a lot of publicity and a chance to sell the piece and fund further works.
I have been working for 15 years as a professional sculptor, first in the film industry (including Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.)(Google N. Staniforth not N sirrenif you want to find me.) Now I work as a portrait artist and fine artist concentrating on public art and private commissions.

Although I have been invited to take part in a few big exhibitions in the past I have never been able to raise the money to accept.Taking part in an expo like this one would help me to step up to the next level and live from my art.

I have taken a risk and made a lot of the piece but I now need the money to get the bronze cast. Originally it was 2000, but the price has risen since making the sculpture (and changing a few things) and I now need 3000. If you can help me with some of it I will fund the stone work and find the rest of the foundry cost.

I hope you will help me to realize my dream, and sculpture. I have the experience, the opportunity and the skill, all I need now is a helping hand to get into this show and prove I am a serious artist.(www.sirrensculpture.com)
Soy artista, escultora.

and the winner is

This morning we drew the winner of the portrait from all the generous people who had donated on my wefund account. The winner was Niamh O´Sheehan, in Denia, Spain. So congratulations Niamh!!! I will be in touch soon to discuss who you have chosen and arrange photos etc. Thank you to everyone who gave and keep an eye on the news section to see how I am progressing. Also a short video of Bruno choosing the winning ticket, (which so far I can only put in sideways, sorry)www.sirrensculpture.com I have managed to get a good price on delivery and will be sending the entire project to UK after all. Thank you so much for all of your help and I hope as many people as possible will come to the show in May. Congratulations Niamh and sorry to everyone else but thanks for trying and thanks for helping. Best wishes to you all Natalie

Yahoo 100%

Thank you to everyone who has pledged, and money is still coming in to make up the shortfall which I had to pay when people could not access the site on the last day. I am making up tickets with names on now to use in the raffle and I´ll draw it in a week. This allows a few people who have promised money to give and still get tickets. Thank you everyone for your aupport and please do visit me in May at the exhibition to see the final piece. Until then I am updating photos every few days on my site www.sirrensculpture.com THANK YOU!!

one day to go

Well this is the last day of my appeal for funds and I have to say a huge thanks you to all of the kind people who have pledged. I am sure I will reach the target tomorrow, despite being under 50% short because I have secured some big pledges against work pending which should take me to the limit. Unfortunately we have some technical problems and they haven´t been able to pay yet, but I am hoping that will be resolved today. So thank you everyone and watch this space for the results of the prize draw. I will post everyone the winners name in the next week. I just have to find the time to print and cut out a name for every ten pounds and put them in a hat. So thanks again and do keep checking out my site for updated pictures of my progress!

On the dark side.

I have started working on the back side of the stone now, just when you think it is all done you flip it over and Voila, loads more work! But progress is fast I am happy with how it is looking. Sadly winter has finally arrived and I am now working in so many clothes I can hardly bend my arms! But working keeps you warm and seeing the progress keeps me motivated to get out there in the freezing wind! Tomorrow I will go to the foundry to retouch the wax before the casting process begins. If you can´t see any images on here please visit my site for updates shots. www.sirrenscupture.com If you can see it, there is a very ugly picture of me in my winter wraps.

Press coverage

Only 20% so far, which isn´t great (although I am thankful to the lovely funders who have given so far!) but it isn´t moving up fast enough to get to our limit. But my hope this week is in the PR I have generated. On Friday the project was in the local press in Watford, (which is where the exhibition will be,) and next Tuesday there is an article going out in the Hora Nova paper here. I have sent several more press releases and i hope some of them will pick up the story. The work is going well, pictures on my site www.sirrensculpture.com and tomorrow I turn over the stone and start working on the back of it. If you are thinking of giving and you read this, please put me out of my misery and give sooner rather than later, the not knowing is killing me!

Thanks to everyone!

Just another quick thank you to all the funders so far. We have reached 15%!! Thanks also to my friends who have promised me money but didn´t want to join paypal, their contributions are under my name. Now i have the rough form finished (big thanks to Bruno for all his help.) I am starting to find the actual form of the ribbon. I have smaller cutting disks and chisels and I am working around the form trying to get the energy and flow which will make the piece work.

another day on the stone front

So another day on the stone over. I am working with a diamond disk and pneumatic tools, both of which make a terrible noise so I have to wear ear plugs. The trouble with that is that if we haven´t already driven our neighbors mad with the noise from the machines, we may have with the shouting! Two people both wearing earplugs discussing where to cut and how much to take off wouldn´t be that interesting anyway, but as we are in Spain and are speaking French and English I imagine they think we are doing some weird type of marital therapy in the garden. I put pictures on my blog yesterday and was going to again today to show my progress, but now I can´t see them so until I figure out what I´m doing wrong there won´t be any more pictures. I hope we get to the amount needed, otherwise anyone want to buy a big sculpture?

Marble and mayhem

I thought I would tell anyone interested how I am getting on with this project. Most people look for funding and then start work, I haven´t had a choice, I had to start and hope a miracle will arrive. Or that you lovely wefunders will help me out. So because the exhibition is in March and I have to leave time to get the piece there from where I am working in Spain, I thought I had better get cracking. So I now have 900kg of marble in my driveway. We went to Toulouse to collect it with my lovely partners van. It took us six hours to get there through treacherous mountain roads but it was beautiful. Sadly the journey just about cost me all I had to live on for this month, but it is worth it, it is a very nice pebble. Now my partner (www.brunofleurit.com) and I are taking shifts to work on the stone and get it down from 900kg to something more like 500, maybe even 400. I have put some pictures on this blog of how the stone looked yesterday and again today and will keep posting daily so you can see the evolution. Thanks for reading, until tomorrow take care.
