Coup film

'Coup' is the brainchild and film project of UK screenwriter and film producer Chris Morgan. 'Tagline - a rogue US General stages a military coup in America. Finance sought - £3m, see rewards section for more details. Note - for possible pledges over £1,000, please email me chris@chrismorganfilms.com

Synopsis With America in the grip of the Great Great Depression, a combination of broken promises by President Cary Passager and circumstances leads General Benedict Alexander to accept the challenge to lead a military coup (takeover). Benedict already has his team together from a fresh military coup in Iraq – battle-hardened cynical Irish General Vinny Armstrong, SAS man Mal, veteran of 'Operation Marlborough' and Beverley Freedom Barnard 'the silent partner behind every recent coup in Africa'. Naturally, Benedict can't even tell his wife about the coup. The secrecy drives them apart and splits the family – son Benedict Junior and daughter Reagan - down the middle. Benedict comes up with a genius plan – just lead the Army on a protest march to Washington and no-one will suspect a thing, but of course he can't even tell his troops until they get there, so there's always the risk they won't support him. The President and Secretary of Defense Walt White gets suspicious about Benedict, so Benedict creates a smokescreen and fakes his own death, when he's asked to support a military coup in Colombia. He returns in time to lead the march. When they reach Washington, Benedict tells his troops the real reason why they are there, half of them support him, half of them will fight him. After a brief and bloody coup, Benedict is installed as President. His wife Ariel tells him that she will be his biggest opponent. Benedict survives an assassination attempt. He calls for his new Vice President Vinny Armstrong, but Vinny has ideas of his own. He's away, leading a coup in Britain. His troops burst into the House of Commons, ready for Coup 2, the sequel.
